Views announcements

For this month we are happy to greet the newest Member of our Views international office-team. We sent a warm and friendly welcome to Suzan. She is a student of specialized teaching and will do an internship in the office of Views International for her studies from the end of February till the beginning of April. During that period, she’ll closely work with the 3 EVS-Volunteers in their projects. The whole Team of Views wishes her good luck and a lot of fun for this cooperation with Views.

Barrier-free elections of the European Parliament

From the 23rd till the 26th of May each citizen from all member states of the European Union has the possibility to elect the members of the new European Parliament. Really each citizen? Unfortunately not! Even though an election within the 28 different Countries is an enormous and well-managed task, there are still some things to improve there, as for example on the point concerning elections free from barriers for people with disabilities.
If you have a mental disability you are often not accepted because it is doubted that you understand politics. As a blind person the electronic voting machine might give you a head ache and, in a wheelchair, you might be unable to enter the election chamber. In order to arrange an election not only without barriers, but also to assure a disability friendly parliament, the European Forum of Disabilities has launched various initiatives and aligned various information on the subject in their newsletter.
